The Benefits of Massaging With Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil is one of the most popular massage oils among massage therapists. It is slightly oily,
which allows hands to glide easily over the skin. Sweet almond oil is absorbed fairly quickly, but not so quickly that you need to keep reapplying it. Because of its versatility it was the first carrier oil I bought myself after I finished my initial massage course. Sweet almond oil is produced by pressing the kernels or nuts of the almond tree. It is a light and non-greasy emollient, excellent for softening and conditioning even the most delicate and sensitive skin types. It is a rich source of vitamins A, B, and E, and this nutrient rich oil is often seen as an ingredient in many skin and hair products.
Benefit 1: Beneficial for people with dry or sensitive skin
As pure almond oil has high content of vitamin E, when massaged into the skin it can be used as a great emollient (used to soften and soothe ) and lubricator for dry skin. It possesses anti-inflammatory properties and absorbs easily into your skin, hydrating tissues without clogging pores. These features combine to make almond oil an effective way to improve dry skin, soreness, itching, inflammation and skin conditions such as psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema.
Benefit 2: It won’t clog pores
If you have oily or combination skin as I do, you might at first feel nervous about putting any kind of oil on your skin, however, the acne-forming oil that is produced by your skin is very different from the processed almond oil for skin treatments. With acne, you produce a sticky oil called sebum that can clog the pores with dead skin cells and other debris. However, the fatty acids in almond oil actually help dissolve the sebum that your skin produces, creating cleaner skin and pores, and helping to get rid of acne.
Benefit 3: It's anti-aging
Almond oil is great for treating wrinkles, fine lines and skin aging. When used during facial massage it plumps and firms ageing skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles . It works as a natural exfoliator on the face to help remove dead skin cells and stimulate the growth of healthier skin. It you can repair signs of aging and prevent further damage to the skin. It raises the amount of moisture that your skin can carry, thereby keeping your skin fresh and giving it a more youthful appearance.
Drawbacks
Sweet Almond Oil is obviously derived from nuts and as such anyone with a nut allergy should always inform their massage therapist and ask for an alternative.
