Zen-Sations Deep Tissue Massage for Golfers
Zen-Sations Massage, Spa and Beauty Therapies Treatment Room and Mobile Service is based in La Zenia and travels in and around the Orihuela Costa. Based in and around the region are around 11 golf courses, which means it houses many many golfing visitors throughout the year. Some of you are novice or recreational golfers enjoying your golfing holiday, some of you are professionals on tour and some of you are somewhere in between, working towards the next level. Whichever one you may be, whatever your skill level, it has become apparent that regular massage, used in conjunction with your training program can help improve your game. It can improve your flexibility, increase your range of motion, prevent injury allowing more pain free games and enhance your overall performance.
Due to the swing needing great rotation, weak muscles and/or poor technique or mechanics can cause many different injuries, most of which can be relieved through a good massage.
The most common areas you golfers are most prone to injuries are;
Neck - sprains and strains caused as a result of tightening up and hitting the ball too hard
Shoulder - tension and inflammation due to gripping and swinging the club as well as rotation.
Mid back - the lats can carry tension due to the rotation on the downward swing and follow through
Lower back -vulnerable to spinal misalignment and tension due to the swing.
Elbow - golfers elbow
Wrist, hands and forearm muscles - tension or inflammation due to gripping and swinging the club.
Hip - stiffness due to the twisting motion of the swing
Knee - pains caused by pressure being applied whilst leaning your weight on the front leg during pivoting
Legs/foot - tightness due to the high mileage you clock up walking a golf course
Having just read through the above list I suggest you duck if the ball comes anywhere near your head as it looks like that's the only part of your body not affected!!!
So which massage is best for you golfers
As you can see on my site I offer several different types of massage and each will help in some way. Some, such as aromatherapy or a Swedish massage offer a more superficial massage and will ease muscle aches, help relieve anxiety and stress levels, improve mental focus and create a feeling of relaxation.
In order to work on or prevent the injuries noted above I highly recommend a Deep Tissue Massage. At Zen-Sations this will be specifically tailored to your needs to ensure that you are quickly able to get back in the swing of things!
What is a Deep Tissue Massage
It focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and is excellent for relieving chronic aches and pains and tense, stiff muscles of the neck, upper back and shoulders, lower back and legs.
The pressure is deeper and the strokes are slower to that of a Swedish Massage and I tend to concentrate on areas of tension and pain that will enable me to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the surrounding connective tissue known as the fascia, using my fingertips, palms, knuckles, fists, forearms and elbows. Bands of rigid, painful tissue known as adhesions in the muscles, ligaments and tendons can cause pain and inflammation and limit movement. In these areas I will apply direct pressure to break down the adhesions which will help to elongate muscles, relieve pain, improve flexibility and improve movement.
What a Deep Tissue Massage isn't is a relaxing massage, you're not meant to 'enjoy' it, unless you like a little pain. It will hurt, but it's that type of pain you know is doing you good. If ever it becomes painful, as in your body is telling you something is wrong, you must immediately communicate this. In the meantime grit your teeth and moan as much as you like!
You may also experience some muscle soreness/tenderness after the massage, but this will subside after a day or two.
When is the best time to get a massage
If you just want a relaxing massage then you can have one whenever you want; pre-game it can be used in conjunction with stretching and hydration as an effective warm up and post-game it can relieve muscle tightness. A Deep Tissue Massage, however, is best at least 48 hours before you start your game. This is because, as stated above, you may be in a little pain for day or two after your massage and your muscles will therefore not be performing at their best. You should also get one as soon as you can if you feel tension, tightening or stiffness in your muscles to prevent injuries and conditions brought on by repetitive strain.
At best a massage from me, Kath, at Zen-Sations will ease your pains and improve your game and at worse it will relax your body and mind; win win I would say, so book an appointment through this website or give me a call to discuss any issues and to make a booking directly through me.
