What are those pesky free radicals I hear about
Here at Zen-Sations we not only want to give you the best microneedling session in line with the updated science, but we want to ensure you have the best homecare advice and know why you are using the products we advise and the products we offer. One of the main ingredients we want you to add to your skincare routine is antioxidants and here's why
Where they come from, what damage they do and how can you fight back
Free radicals are made as normal by products of cell metabolism or by exposure to things such as air pollution, cigarette smoke, pesticides or x-rays.
Electrons like to be in pairs. Free radicals have an uneven number of electrons and therefore steal electrons from healthy molecules to help to make themselves more stable. Just to make matters worse, the healthy molecule that is now missing an electron becomes a free radical and so it begins!
In small numbers, the body does have uses for them, such as fighting infection. Unfortunately when we have too many they cause damage to structures within the cells and this results in oxidative stress and prolonged oxidative stress causes aging of the skin, specifically the loss of collagen and elastin fibres, which results in fine lines and wrinkles. It can also cause reduced barrier function, which can increase the risk of harmful toxins and pathogens entering the body and increased water loss causing dehydration as well as increasing the risk of skin cancer.
So what can you do to fight back???
Well you can limit your intake of sugar, red meats, white bread and pasta etc, eat plenty of food full of antioxidants, meaning fruit and vegetables and stop smoking.
You can also make sure you include antioxidants in your skincare regimes. They are essential for overall skin health I will be speaking more in depth about these another day, but they include Vitamins A, C, E, B3, Green Tea and Squalane. (That's Squalane, not Squalene)
There are more, but all the above are available to purchase from Zen-Sations. They are made with the home care Microneedling protocol in mind, but can obviously incorporated in a routine without Microneedling.
The new Microneedling protocol is available to everyone who has the treatment, ask for further details
